Getting your ears pierced should be special. It's a jewel for life. A beautiful gift to your daughter (or son), your friend or yourself. And as a doctors assistant I also want it to be safe and responsible. With a steady but soft hand. And with the right hygene to make the risk of an infection as small as possible.

I choose to work with Inverness. With this system I sort of push the earring trough the earlobe. Soft and gentle. So even for young children this system works great.

Are you afraid of the pain?

The question I get asked most often: does it hurt?
I always explain that it feels different for everyone — child or adult. But I completely understand the fear.

That’s why I optionally offer Emla cream. This is a mild, topical numbing cream that temporarily makes the skin less sensitive, helping to soften the piercing experience. Emla has been safely used for many years during medical procedures such as vaccinations or blood tests.

You apply the cream to the earlobe approximately two hours before the appointment. Most children (and adults!) experience significantly less pain this way.
